The SIG Sauer P226 X-Five is a pistol designed for practical shooting. With that in mind, it bears some interesting design features. This pistol is made in Taiwan by KWC and carries Sig Sauer licensed markings. The frame and slide of the X-Five are made of metal with the grip panels and a few internal parts made of plastic. The gun has good heft and balance with all controls in easy reach for both left and right-handed shooters. The controls on the X-Five function very much like the corresponding controls on the real deal firearm. The front sight has a white dot on it but there are no dots on the rear sight. The front and rear sights are molded into the slide and are therefore not adjustable. The pistol features an underbarrel integrated Picatinny rail that allows the attachment of various tactical accessories. The magwell is enlarged to allow for fast magazine changes. The frame extends all the way out to the end of the barrel, that helps prevent muzzle climb.
The blow-back action is fast and imparts a decent kick when the gun is fired. The slide must be racked by hand to fire the first shot. Once the slide has been racked, all shots are then normally fired in single-action mode. The hammer can be carefully lowered with your thumb and the safety applied (it cannot be lowered with the safety on). With the hammer down, moving the safety to the fire position allows the current shot to be fired in double-action mode. All subsequent shots are fired single-action. The slide locks back after the last shot has been fired. Since the magazine contains the CO2 cylinder, BBs, and the valve mechanism, removing the magazine keeps the gun from being fired, even if a BB is left in the chamber.
A large amount of gas is used to power the blow-back function, which results in the gun having modest power and relatively low efficiency in terms of the number of good shots available per CO2 cylinder. You can expect between 50 and 60 shots from each CO2 cylinder. The large amount of gas released with each shot also causes the gun to cool down quickly if the gun is fired rapidly. The full metal magazine carries the CO2 cartidge and the BBs, with a total capacity of 18 rounds.
The SIG Sauer P226 X-Five is a competition only variant of the P226 with a 127 mm (5.0 in) slide and barrel, beavertail grip, and an adjustable rear target sight. Intended for IPSC Wa1500, bullseye and other centrefire competitive shooting, the X-Five is hand-fitted and assembled in Germany, and its resulting accuracy accordingly rivals the SIG P210. Available in 9mm or .40 S&W, SIG offers five different versions of the gun to suit every need.
