The A&K M249 Para is a high-performance SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) that is notorious for its perfect balance between affordability, performance, and reliability, with no compromise in between. The M249 is a full size replica of the real steel M249, and is built using high quality materials outside and in to ensure durability, even during extended game play. Besides the plastic handguard, everything on the MG is made out of metal. An integrated bipod comes standards users will find it very useful in times of varying Airsoft combat scenarios. The retractable helps balancing the gun, but since it's easy to fold it makes easy to carry around. The heat shield is removable but it definetelly gives a realistic feeling to the whole construction. Its all metal construction makes it extremely sturdy, but it's also a beast to carry around at more than 5 kilos. The model sports a carrying handle, but due to its weight, it's not recomended to use it to transport it.
It features a high performance gearbox that has been re-designed with an enhanced high-performance gear set and a new high-torque motor that has improved overall shooting smoothness and slightly increased rate of fire over comparable 2009 production run models. The gearbox is a unique design that is built like a rock and its thickness guarantees that it will run forever, it also allows spring swap in seconds with no tools needed. Most of the internals are Version 2/3 compatible. The only proprietary part is the electronic trigger switch. As an M249 should be, it fires on full auto only. The velocity is around 400 fps, but that can be adjusted according to the user's liking.
The package includes the M249, its High Capacity 2500 BBs auto winding drum magazine, battery and charger.
The M249 light machine gun (LMG), previously designated the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW), is an American version of the Belgian FN Minimi, a light machine gun manufactured by the Belgian company Fabrique Nationale Herstal (FN). The weapon provides infantry squads with the heavy volume of fire of a machine gun combined with accuracy and portability approaching that of a rifle.
M249s have seen action in every major conflict involving the United States since the 1989 invasion of Panama. Due to the weight and age of the weapon, the United States Marine Corps is testing the M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle with plans to partially replace the M249 in Marine Corps service. That said, that does not dissuade from its appearances in many movies, tv shows and video games as the weapon is almost as synonymous with American infantry as the iconic M16/M4.
